    ARTISTIC FALLACY

I was talking to a fellow artist the other day and he was telling me about the difficulties of training the recent generation in the field of arts. One major concern was the lack of discipline in general. Which I think is sad, because somehow, the idea that art is a field that tolerates a lack of discipline has become sort of the norm, when in fact, it should be the complete opposite. An artist should have the utmost discipline. Think about it. A person who works in a corporate job is expected to have a certain level of discipline, enough to follow the rules and deliver results. But what…

Pat Barrett Good Good Father Tour

Organizer: Becca Music Inc. Venue: Green Sun Hotel Function Hall with 360 Projection System Know more about Pat Barrett at: Pat Barrett Music There always seems to be this chasm we put between us “normal people” and our favorite artists, and just because they’re famous, we unconsciously put them on a pedestal. Interestingly though, that chasm closes once you get to meet them in person, you realize they are as normal as you are. They just seem to have put their dedication into that very thing they love to do and made it as normal as breathing, and for us, that is awesome. Enjoy the photos with his music in…

Gijs and Michelle – Encounter with Destiny

It’s like traveling to different sides of the world when I go from Michelle’s room to Gij’s. But the energy and the reason for laughter is the same. Love ones and family make the day with their presence in their beautiful dresses and suits. But the best thing about it is they all have their smiles ready for the union of two that met in a chance encounter years ago, and decided to never let go, it’s the kind of love story that we all dream about. Find their love story, along with their engagement photos here: Michelle and Gijs – A Meteora Prewedding Gown: Patty Ang Reception: Gloria Maris,…

Jed and Lalaine – Colors of Love

Concepts of married life vary like the many colors we see. When these colors come together they make the rainbow, majestic and wonderful, a sign of promise given by God. Let your marriage be like the rainbow, where all aspects come together to form a complete picture that will all point to the creator of all things. Davy and Valerie – Love that Moves

It’s a love story that sends the warmest fuzzies down my spine. Two friends whom we thought would make a good match actually became a good match, good is an understatement, great would be the right term. But while we made the match, it is them who made it work. Davy persistently asked for that first meet, and told Valerie he would only want 15 minutes of her time, it was all the time he needed to make that connection. After that Val had to go back to HK where she lived, to which Davy booked 3 round trip tickets to Hong Kong on the spot and that impressed her.…

Camera on Hand – Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year here in Manila is one of the liveliest celebrations around. I have always made it a point to capture this celebration ever since I started photography. Yesterday I walked the streets of Binondo again but I wanted to catch something more intimate. I took very few shots but I love this one. A family having their own festivity in their salon, the people outside clueless to the mini-celebration. Here I saw memories in the making.

    Glen and Beverly Onsite Slideshow

The beauty of a photo is that, when properly composed, each can stand on it’s own, but another strength comes when they are put together to form an complete story of the wedding day. The emotion is multiplied and the memories collide. Add music and let the whole experience take you on an emotional ride. Here’s an onsite presentation of Glen and Beverly’s wedding captured in the beautiful sanctuary of Manila Cathedral and at the warm sun-kissed bay of Roxas Boulevard. Enjoy! 160110 Glen and Beverly from Derrick Lim on Vimeo.

Rizal and Rain – Thank You 2015

It has been a personal tradition for me to do a quick photowalk around Roxas boulevard to catch the last sunset of the year, then after that I head off to the family dinner. Last night as I was walking back to my car I decided to do a last shot at the Rizal monument along with the dramatic lights around it. In a few minutes the rain began to pour, but that only made the scene more interesting and favorable for me. But as I was setting up my phone started to ring, I thought: “Oh my, it’s dinner time already, they must be waiting for me”. But the…

Kelly and Gigi – The Henry Hotel Prenup

I was so excited when Kelly called me up asking for a time to meet regarding my services, I’m always giddy when a batch mate is on his wedding preps journey and it was also a great time to catch up. Very happy too that he found a beautiful and loving partner in Gigi, because somehow deep inside I would wish for a fellow classmate to end up in a good marriage. Funny thing though they are sort of opposites, I’ve known Kelly as the quiet type during our high school days, and I found out during the shoot that Gigi is the kind of person who reaches out, so…
