Hands of Surrender

At the beginning of every year, the church I attend to sets aside a week devoted to prayer and fasting. Whether it is for the self, or others, or for the country, it is said to be wise to put first things first, a heart that is right with God. On some of these days I take time to shoot. Finding scenes of fervent prayer inspires me. I did notice quite an amount of hands in my focus this year, and as much as I try to avoid it, it seems that the somehow the hands communicate what words cannot express, or choose not to.

Looking at this set, I feel that our hands are the extension of our hearts.
So if our hearts show surrender, our hands follow suit, when our hearts extend care, our hands extend it too.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

“Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.” 1 Chronicles 16:11

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” Jeremiah 33:2-3

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans 8:26

“Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.” 1 Timothy 2:8

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 6:9-14
