The Hidden Beauty of Manila Zoo
The famous quote “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” seems to forget that some beauty has to be observed. In this generation where we are constantly bombarded by the media with instant images and novelty, it is tempting to think that even beauty can be served to us like fast food for the eyes. There are instances when we need to take a second look, or maybe a third one before beauty shows itself. It may be testing you if you are worthy to see what is hiding underneath the first impression.
One place where such beauty is hiding is in a small oasis called the Manila Zoo. Surrounded by high rise developments and progress, this once vibrant sanctuary struggles to catch up due to changing times, neglect and possibly even politics. But in it’s struggle it finds strength in the passionate hearts of volunteers that take time out of their busy schedules to care for the animals, think of programs, and find ways to raise the value of this precious landmark.
I invite you to take a stroll and simply enjoy what the zoo has to offer, preferably on weekdays so you can walk around in peace. While you will be greeted by ageing facilities, open your eyes and heart and let the inhabitants show you that there are some beauty that can be seen only by those who truly care.
