Hands of Surrender
At the beginning of every year, the church I attend to sets aside a week devoted to prayer and fasting. Whether it is for the self, or others, or for the country, it is said to be wise to put first things first, a heart that is right with God. On some of these days I take time to shoot. Finding scenes of fervent prayer inspires me. I did notice quite an amount of hands in my focus this year, and as much as I try to avoid it, it seems that the somehow the hands communicate what words cannot express, or choose not to. Looking at this set, I…

Raymond and Genevieve – Tinghun at Crowne Plaza
It’s always a joy to cover a tinghun, from the simple preparations to the simple setups, it takes away a lot of the stress from the family to “make things perfect”. Sure there are traditions to follow, but being simpler than weddings, family members can focus more on helping each other, spend time chatting while eating, and whether they know it or not, more memorable moments are created. It’s how family celebrations should be. Cakes: Custom Cakes by Bam Hair and Make Up: Krystle Anne Bonus Venue: Crowne Plaza

Love in Action – a SIPAG initiative
Months ago I joined a medical outreach headed by SIPAG (Simula ng Pagasa) to the Dumagat Tribes in Sitio Apia, Barangay Calawis, an area relatively near, but difficult to access. With rough trails and rivers to cross, it presented a challenge to bring 400 medical volunteers and their equipment to the location and back. Danny, who leads the SIPAG initiative, has been interacting with the people of the Dumagat tribe for months and already, he sees that their medical needs are real, and SIPAG had to find ways to bridge that need. This problem led to an unusual collaboration between the team of Danny and the 4×4 enthusiasts led by…

Kris and Chams – Abagatan Ti Manila – Garden Wedding
Wedding Venue: Abagatan Ti Manila Venue Stylist: Michael Ruiz Bouquet: Michael Ruiz Coordinator: Bluefish Asia Make Up Artist: Jackie Majica Flores Videographer: AG Garza Wedding Films Since most of my content are photos, I’ll tell you some of what I heard on this wedding day. The breeze rustling the leaves of the trees and the pitter patter of the slight drizzle. Our bride Cham talking on the phone and calling the other person “Commander”, who I thought she was referring to Kris, but it was someone else who was actually a commander. Flipping of pages as Cham takes time for the Bible before her pictorial. The light and fun chatter…

Jacob Celebrates One Year at Pio’s Kitchen
Parties with all the programs, entertainment and frills are fun and all, but sometimes I get to cover celebrations that are simple yet meaningful. The kind that makes you go “Hey, I’d like to have a party like that too.” For Jacob’s first birthday, his parents opted for a simple celebration with an intimate crowd of close friends. An afternoon of good conversations and good food provided by Pio’s Kitchen in their cozy home convertible into a dining space. Everyone just spent their time chatting, laughing and eating. I guess the awesome paella had something to do with it. Yup, I definitely would like to have a party like that…

Fly! Or at least try.
It’s too high, I wonder if I can reach it. But I’ll jump anyway, I’d like catch it. I guess it’s time to fly! or at least try. Here comes the next throw, way off to the right. There goes my legs, running with might. I guess it’s time to fly! or at least try. My friends run beside, eyes on the prize. They all run fast, I’ll do likewise. I guess it’s time to fly! or at least try. It’s getting dark, still an hour to go. We’ll keep practicing, I know I know. Someday I’ll fly, yes, I’ll fly.

The Happy Art of Shibori
There is joy in making something beautiful, and there is also joy in finding it in the unplanned. That is what we found out when we attended Luisa’s Shibori workshop when she held it in QC. With an intimate setting and relaxed sunday atmosphere, participants are taught to experiment and explore this craft, and also get a chance to bring life to their old clothes. Shibori is a Japanese art of dyeing wherein you control (sort of) where the dye goes by tying, binding, folding, etc. It sounds laborious until you get your hands into it, because the joy is in the process and the result is magic, which you’ll…
